Introduction to Phlebotomy

Instructional and practical hands-on training, with emphasis placed on safety procedures and proper collection techniques. Draw blood specimens by venipuncture and capillary puncture. Students who complete this course in phlebotomy will need to obtain additional experience before qualifying for certification as a registered phlebotomist. Phlebotomists can get certification from several different organizations in the US. Three major organizations are National Phlebotomy Association, Society of Phlebotomy Technicians plus American Association for Clinical Pathology. Each organization has specific requirements concerning intership completion, number of successful blood collections, number of hours spent on practical training, number of hours spent in the classroom plus professional membership. Also, they give different examinations. Students are advised to find out the requirements of each association.
