Business Technology

The Business Management and Administration career pathway prepares individuals for success in emerging and traditional occupations within business and computer technology.  Upon successful completion of the chosen career major, the student will be able to use basic terminology common in the computer industry; identify the types of functions of hardware and software, and peripheral components; demonstrate proper care of the computer system; successfully use specific operation systems; interact with directories and subdirectories; analyze and identify problem sources; and use technical support resources.

Upon completion students will be able to use business software applications such as word processing, spreadsheet, database management, e-mail, multimedia, and the internet.  Students will also receive specific instruction that relates to the chosen career major.

Students will receive instruction to prepare them for becoming employable.  The student will be able to project an appropriate business image; apply basic problem solving and critical thinking skills; develop professional and personal goals; practice time and stress management concepts; apply business and work ethics; effectively use verbal and nonverbal communication; demonstrate proper telephone techniques; use various research and reference resources; compose a letter of application and resume; prepare for and participate in job interviews; complete post-interview techniques; create a portfolio; understand post-employment practices; apply appropriate reading comprehension; writing, math and communication skills; understand and use appropriate filing methods; effectively use a calendar system; and operate automated equipment.
